About County
County contains the area of Walton in Liverpool, and also includes Orrell Park. Walton was called Walton on the Hill, until it lost it's independence and became part of Liverpool Borough Council in 1836.
Alsop High school is in County and famous pupils include Alexi Sayle, and amongst the teachers at Alsop Com
p, was once a certain Monsiueur Gerrard Houllier. Which is ironic as Everton FC's ground Goodison Park is situated in this ward.
Also in County is Rice Lane City Farm and Walton Cemetery, final resting place of Robert Noonan, who under the name Robert Tressell, wrote the superb novel "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists" which although published in 1914, remains a classic of working-class literature and inspiration to the Socialist political cause. Definitely a must-read!
