 The Valley Voles Minimize

 

Hi, this is where you can see the progress of a comic strip written and designed by the young people at

De La Salle School in Croxteth with the help of top animator Tony Ealey from Eek Films Liverpool.

It's the true story of a labour (that's the collective term) of Voles that get taken from their nice, comfy home at Chester zoo and brought in cages to a project in Alt Valley where they will have to fend for themselves, take care of each other and "thrive to survive". If they are ever to be set free that is!

 Character Designs Minimize

Here are some rough designs for the characters...

CLUBBER

A political activist and Chairman of V.A.C. (the Voles Action Committee).  He's from Clubmoor, wears his heart on his sleeve and his views on his vest!

  UNCLE NORRIS BEAN

An environmentalist, particularly nervous about water pollution.He's eccentric and lives up in a bush rather than in the burrow, he can keep an eye on things that way.

 Croxy and Baby Zak

Croxy is a lively, adventurous single Mum with a profound sense of curiosity of the world around her. She loves nothing more than to find and try new things.

Baby Zak is a little tearaway! Loves to sleep and eat above all else but gets very angry if he doesn't get his own way.

 

Orrel and Walt

Orrel is the burrow cook and mother figure to the other voles.

Walt is a great story teller and loves to find copies of the Echo that blow over the perimeter fence from time to time. He's the self proclaimed wise old leader of the voles. Their guide and mentor.

 

Some other designs

Barney the Barn Owl

He brings news and gossip from afar, in fact he lives in the roof of the Showcase cinema and brings news from there. Is supposed to be a predator but is past all that and he's the Voles' friend now.

 

Paula the Pike

A greedy old trout of a pike, would like nothing better than to sink her choppers into Baby Zak. Of corse she'll never catch him; it's a cartoon!
