 Your Safety

Your personal safety is always the most important factor in any project.

While participating in Alt Valley Vision, or creating content for other purposes, always stop to consider your own safety as well as the safety of others, and the equipment you are using.

Stick to these simple rules to ensure you stay safe while creating great content:

  • ALWAYS consider the risks of filming in a particular place. Is it safe?
  • NEVER film somebody without their permission
  • ALWAYS get the right permissions (use our forms in our Help > Download section)
  • NEVER go out filming alone
  • ALWAYS tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back.
  • NEVER publish information about yourself or others that could be misused by others
  • ALWAYS think about how information that you publish could be used by others.

Try not to show people taking drugs, smoking, abusing solvents or misusing alcohol and if you do (and there needs to be a really good reason), NEVER make it look cool or someone might copycat. If you can, don’t show any violent behaviour or violent talk that people might want to copy.

People who do not adhere to these guidelines risk having their content removed from the portal, and their membership of the project terminated.

 Our Commitment

Alt Valley Vision will:

  • Obtain the relevant permissions from participants, parents/carers, content creators, and location and copyright owners
  • Ensure our staff have been cleared to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • Ensure our staff and volunteers are aware of relevant health, safety and protection policies and procedures in various venues and partner organisations
  • Ensure staff from partner organisations are present during all work with children and young people
  • Show participants how to use equipment safely and securely
  • Talk to project participants about personal safety when using the internet
  • Talk to project participants about personal safety and responsible content creation when creating and publishing content
  • Demonstrate how to carry out risk assessments when planning projects
  • Provide appropriate forms and further information to help people create content safely
  • Investigate any complaints about content on the Alt Valley Vision portal, and take appropriate action, including removing content and banning participants from the project where necessary

 Keeping Equipment Safe

You must complete the relevant QuickStart training course in order to borrow equipment.

Then follow these guidelines to help us ensure there's enough equipment for everybody:

  • Always use equipment according to the instructions provided
  • Please be prompt when collecting and returning equipment - it helps us keep everything safe and secure, and make sure it's ready for others
  • Be careful when taking equipment outside - protect it from the weather and NEVER leave it unattended
  • Never loan equipment to anybody else - if they lose or break anything it's YOUR membership that's at risk! (just ask them to register directly with us)
  • Always return equipment to us in the condition it was supplied - let us know if there's any problems
  • If you're not sure about something give us a call - better safe than sorry!
